Scenarios for India to Reach the Semis
Well, the loss to West Indies yesterday did hurt all of us badly. But then, this is T20 cricket and you make predictions at your own peril in this format.
Despite this defeat for India, all is not lost for them. .They are still in with a decent chance to make the semis. The one good thing that happened today was West Indies losing comprehensively to South Africa [West Indies v/s South Africa Score Card]. Whats next for Team India? The following are the various scenarios which are possible in the group:
First and Foremost, India has to win against England tomorrow. That is a Do-or-Die match for Indians. If they lose, they are going home, but if they win, we have the scenarios:
Scenario 1
India wins against England
England wins against West Indies
India wins against South Africa
In this scenario, India goes through without worrying about the net run rates and all.
Scenario 2
India wins against England
England wins against West Indies
India lose to South Africa
This would mean South Africa going through to semis and India, England and West Indies tied with 1 win each. The Net Run rates would then decide the one team that would go along with SA.
So, in this scenario, India needs to win big against England and lose a close one to SA.
Scenario 3
India wins against England
West Indies wins against England
India wins against South Africa
This would mean India, South Africa and West Indies all tied with 2 wins each and the net run rates will decide the 2 teams who will go to semis.
So, in this scenario, India needs to win big against both England and South Africa.
Scenario 4
India wins against England
West Indies wins against England
India lose to South Africa
This is one scenario all Indians would hope does not arise as this would throw India out of the tournament with West Indies and South Africa making the semis.
We see that Scenario 1 is the ideal one for India, whereas Scenario 4 is the worst. Scenario 2 and 3 make it quite tough for India.
Hence, let us all pray for Scenario 1... Go India, Just Do It.
