Dav Whatmore is the new man behind KKR!

Kolkata Knight Riders had sacked John Buchanan after the debacle in IPL 2009, and KKR have finally decided on a man, after months of speculation.

Dav Whatmore has been decided to be coaching the IPL team, KKR, the one who stood last in the league stage.

Dav Whatmore, who had gained large number of accolade for his work with the Bangladesh Cricket team, will be hoping to gain similar, if not more, success with the Bangla side on this side of the border!

Whatmore is presently head of the BCCI's National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, has seemingly been allowed to take up this job!

KKR had been meeting a number of candidates, including John Wright, Richard Pybus, Dermot Reeve, Duncan Fletcher, Lalchand Rajput, WV Raman and Ashok Malhotra. Names like Wasim Akram as a consultant to guide their bowling attack, Vijay Dahiya as assistant coach, had been doing the rounds!

All Padded Up's take:

Dav Whatmore has had a history of working with sides and taking them to unprecedented success. He has done with Bangladesh Cricket and has done it with the Indian Under 19 team.

But more than the records, what might work for this Australian is his ability to let the team hog the lime light and an abhorrence for controversies. For an IPL team, he may find it difficult to avoid the media, but his natural skills will certainly come in handy to him!

Whatmore's approach is low-profile, hands-on and focuses on man-management skills. The fact that he has been working with Indian domestic circuit, will make sure all racist innuendo is spared!

Yes, Dav Whatmore may be the best bet for KKR to do a Deccan Chargers!

Good Job, this time around, SRK and Joy!
